Post Run Smoothie

I like to run.  But sometimes it's the reward at the end of the run that gets me through.  I love a cool smoothie after working hard and sweating my ass off.  {You might recognize this picture if you follow me on Instagram }I bring you a tried and trusted smoothie recipe that I make often:

1 cup coconut water

1/2 cup hemp milk

1/2 frozen banana

1/2 cup frozen blueberries

1 scoop Vanilla Sunwarrior Protein

1 handful spinach

1 tsp spirulina

2 Tbsp flax oil

1 Tbsp cinnamon

1/2-1 Tbsp blackstrap molasses

I like to switch up my milks to get different nutrients/benefits.  My favourite is almond milk, but I also drink hemp, rice, coconut, and cashew milks.  No cows for me.  I also like to switch up my protein powders for the same reason.  Sunwarrior is a fave and I also like Vega, Progressive Harmonized, and Genuine Health.  The blackstrap molasses is high in B vitamins, iron, folic acid, calcium, magnesium, potassium, and more!  Plus it gives the smoothie a sweet rich taste but because this natural sweetener is low glycemic it won't spike your blood sugar. Have you tried it before?

Give this a try after your next sweat sesh! :)

Pineapple Ginger Green Juice

It's always fun experimenting with different juice combinations, and while I'm fine with earthy and grassy combos, sometimes I come up with the sweetest concoctions...like this one:

Trust me...you'll love it!

2 cups fresh organic pineapple

1 head of romaine

1 cucumber

4 large celery sticks

1 lime

1 chunk of ginger

Chill while cleaning your juicer and enjoy while doing this:

Start your morning with positive thoughts and good intentions.  Check yourself out in the mirror, naked, and tell yourself how perfect you are and how much you love your body.  Make those funny duck faces at yourself if you want too. ;)  Sip your juice and smile at yourself.  Nourish your body, mind, and soul.

Sweet Potato Carrot Orange Juice

I decided to expand on my love of Sweet Potatoes.  I love them roasted with coconut oil and cinnamon for a 'sweet' taste or turned into homemade fries  seasoned with chili flakes, cayenne, and rosemary for a savoury taste. Two of my favourite recipes are my BNut Squash & Sweet Potato Soup and my Quinoa Sweet Potato Avocado Goddess Bowl.   But today I thought I'd juice 'em.  Yep, raw sweet potatoes.  So smart, right?  I know!

This juice is full of beta-carotene (cancer preventative), Vit C, Vit E, potassium, magnesium, and more!

-1 honkin' sweet potato

-1 large orange

-4-5 large carrots

-small chunk of ginger (optional)

I chopped up the sweet potato into about 4 huge pieces because I wasn't sure how hard it would be to juice but it juiced no problem so next time I will skip that step.

I always chill my juice while I'm washing the juicer, then I have a nice cold juice and a clean kitchen! ;)

Ooh la la, the colour is so vibrant!  Let me know if you try this!

Bruschetta Snack

I love bruschetta mix with crackers or raw veggies as an afternoon snack or as a dinner on top of quinoa pasta. It is very versatile, just like my Kale Walnut Pesto.  I also love easy and quick recipes that are full of flavour, taste, and nutrition!

-1 tomato

-1 onion

-2 garlic cloves

-a few fresh basil leaves

-a few gluggs of Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO)

-sea salt and black pepper to taste

Place tomato, onion, garlic, and basil into the food processor (or chop by hand).  Drizzle EVOO and sprinkle with sea salt and black pepper.  Mix and serve.
